Everyone is talking about it…Emily in Paris and if you haven’t seen it, you must! It is a light-hearted show that is not only binge-worthy for its epic love moments and comedic bits but for fashion. Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world and watching Emily in Paris, you can see why.

Fashion designer, Marylin Fitoussi, perfectly creates unique pieces that speak to each character in the show. The main character, Emily, is an American living in Paris. Her clothing mixes quirky with classic, blending both cultures in a seemingly endless stream of magnificence. The juxtaposition of this style against that of the character Sylvie’s elegant French wardrobe portrays both classic and edgy fashion.

So, where can you get the styles seen in Emily in Paris?

Many stores and designers are carrying their take on the fashion from this ever so popular show. Showstopping designer, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia dedicates an entire section of her website to Emily in Paris with a category entitled “Pardon Her French”. You will see many high-end brands in the show like Dolce & Gabbana® who designed an outstanding purse that is carried by Emily in Season 2. Emily’s fashion becomes even more Parisian in season two but you’ll have to watch the show to see how.

Emily speaks of Ringardes in Season 1, Episode 6, stating how they are needed by high-end designers because “without basic bitches like me, you wouldn’t be fashionable.” These knock-offs which the French would consider “plain” fashion are important because they allow everyone to enter the world of high fashion, sporting designs they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. Instead of the designer pieces only being available to a select few, they are worshipped by many, making the original designers stand out even more.

Pop Culture Fashion

Pop culture influences styles around the globe, transferring ideas and allowing fashion trends to cross borders. Designers and trendsetters are often seen blurring the lines of gender to promote dressing in the way that makes you feel most confident.

Pop culture fashion allows us to emulate the styles of the celebrities or TV show characters we love most without the extreme price tag. Certain styles such as fishnet stockings and leather jackets portray a characteristic all their own, emulating a rocker-type persona.

This type of fashion has no boundaries or rules, mixing classical styles with modern looks and that is what makes it so great. It’s all about putting your own spin on couture pieces by mimicking, adding to or changing how they are worn. Emily in Paris is a perfect example of pop culture fashion because it blends French style with a splash of American.
